As a friendly reminder, the internship needs to be project-based and may not replace or replicate existing student employment positions. Internship submissions will be disqualified if it is an existing student employment position. Additionally, the SSI program is not intended to supplement student positions that are currently funded from your department, grant or alternative funding source.

Examples of previous SSI Internship project titles: Invasive Plant Species Intern, Public Humanities and Arts Intern, Sustainability Marketing Intern, UC Merced Herbarium Intern, Latino Health Research Intern, etc.

We ask the interns not spend more than 15 percent of time doing miscellaneous office/clerical. Please focus on (for example): enhancing critical thinking, communication, presentation and writing skills.

Student Learning Outcomes reveal the changes in attitude, aptitudes, skills or behaviors that a student user can describe or demonstrate after participating in this internship program.
Learning outcomes use active verbs to describe the expectation of what students will gain or learn. e.g. As a result of the internship experience, the intern will launch a marketing campaign that is student-centered and innovative, promoting UCM logo merchandise available at the Campus Store. e.g As a result of the internship experience, the intern will demonstrate effective written communication skills by producing written reports that are concise, error-free and professional.
